update / Naltrexone

the Naltrexone makes me a little sleepy so I take it before bed… which is an added bonus since sometimes it’s pretty hard fo me to fall asleep lately..

anyhow, I haven’t noticed any decrease in the desire to pull, but I DO think I notice that it is becoming easier to stop once the cycle has already started.  If you’re a puller, I’m sure you know how hard it is to stop once you get going.  In fact, many times you can have a pull free day if you just stop yourself from starting… it’s once you start that it gets out of control.
I’ve noticed a few times recently that my little conversations within myself “you should stop this because of X.. or Y”  actually get through to the rest of my brain, and I’ve been able to stop.   Of course, the urge comes back soon so I have to make sure I keep busy… but it’s becoming a little easier to stop!

now I just need to get back on track with my cognitive behavioral therapy.  We put that on hold for about 2 months while I was traveling and dealing with all of my other stressful issues, but we’re going to start back up again next week.  I think I will be armed and ready to fight a new battle soon!!  :)

  1. I just came across your blog when I googled Naltrexone for TTM. I, too, am a puller. I started when I was 11 years old, and I am now 45. There was a period of about 15 years in between when I stopped pulling. I have been pulling steadily now for the past 12 years. I pull my eyelashes, brows and scalp. My psychiatrist has just put me on Naltrexone…I took my first dose about 30 minutes ago. I am curious to see what happens. I am so glad that I found your blog…..very nice to meet you!

  2. i know what you are going through - i am 40 and have been doing this trich thing for nearly 30 years. I go through ups and downs. I enjoy your blog and glad i found it. Thanks.

  3. i was on Cymbalta and it helped a lot - but it was hard to know whether it just happened while I was in relapse mode or what. All i know is that I got in and out of relapse faster whilst on cymbalta. Today I am still on Cymbalta BUT i cannot stop pulling hair this time around - I stopped for a whole week - then BAM!!! here I am again pulling without a care in the world. I feel so down on myself and i have even gone into isolation to keep from people seeing me - but it is not my favorite thing to do. I hope we can both stop pulling.

  4. Thanks for the comments… its really nice to know that there are others around! I did try Cymbalta awhile back, but I didn’t like the way it made me feel emotionally, so that’s why I went for the Naltrexone, since it’s not an anti-depressant. so far I haven’t had a ton of luck with either, though… I would love to know how you do with the Naltrexone, k9!
